Junior Coaching

Who can Come and Whats Needed

Junior coaching starts from the age of 5 up to 18.  All the bowls are supplied by he club and all we ask is that flat trainers are worn.
The cost of coaching for the season is £10.00 for a junior membership but if parents or grandparents are members at the club then juniors can go on their membership for free.
Our Coaches - Karen Brown, Ian TurnBull
Volunteers - Winnie Milligan, Sandy Milligan, Julie Smith, Marc Nichol and Steven Whittet
If you require any further information on the junior coaching please feel free to email Karen on the clubs email, through our Facebook page or call 07917150265 Thanks

Be part of the Future

We at Newtown are proud of our Junior section, it has grown from a couple to over ten and is getting stronger every year and now some of our juniors are at a point where they can play beside the adults in the league and in the club competitons and a few of them have even won a trophy or runners up prize.  Our main source of recruiting our juniors is through the local primary school, we have a good relationship with them and run a coaching programme with the primary 4/5s before the summer holidays and some of them come along to our coaching at night.
We run coaching for the juniors every Monday night from 6-7pm starting in May and ending the first Monday in September .  We also have 2 singles competitions on a Sunday throughout the year plus the junior championship which they can enter up until they are 18. Last season we also held the first ever junior- coach 2-4-2 which was a great success so much so its back on the fixture card for this season.
Due to us having a thriving junior section we are bringing back our junior open which is to be held on the 12th of August this year and is open to any junior aged 18 and under.  This is a great opportunity as there are not many competitions that juniors can play in.
Our junior coaching sessions are run at the moment with 2 qualified coaches and 7 volunteers but we are in the process of putting 5 of the volunteers through the coaching course. The aim of Monday night coaching especially for the younger ones is to get the targets out and to make it as fun as possible while learning the basics of bowling, the older ones will learn how to play singles but also team games they will also learn how to skip games and instuct players on where they would like them to play the bowl and how to mark ties.
